Since last year’s Pixel 6 series, Google has built its own Google Tensor chip for the first time. Based on the Samsung Exynos architecture, it was jointly developed by the two parties. Since its launch, there have been many bugs, which have caused many fans to love and hate.

Google released a new generation of Pixel 7 series last week, and Taiwan has opened pre-orders, which will be launched on October 13, and upgrade the second-generation Tensor G2 chip. The foreign media Android Authority has officially confirmed by Google that the Tensor G2 chip is a 5-nanometer process, not a rumored 4-nanometer; although Google has not specifically stated that it is a Samsung OEM, it is almost certainly Samsung.

It is worth noting that Google did not disclose which version is adopted because Samsung 5nm has 5LPE and newer 5LPP. However, due to the slight increase in the clock of Tensor G2, the official emphasizes the improvement of power consumption, and it is speculated that the newer 5LPP technology is used.

Although Tensor G2 is a 5nm process, it maintains a 2+2+4 three-cluster design, but the mid-core upgrades the Arm Cortex-A78 architecture and also uses the updated Arm Mali-G710 GPU.

Google said that Tensor G2 has better performance and improved battery life. With the blessing of Tensor G2, it makes camera functions more powerful, such as high-resolution zoom, movie motion blur, etc. The actual performance difference compared with the previous generation will be released in the follow-up evaluation.

In addition, it was previously reported by Korean media that Samsung has won orders for Google’s Tensor G3 chips for the Pixel 8 series next year, and is expected to use Samsung’s 3nm process, but Tensor G2 is 5nm, and it will jump to 3nm next year. Nano, the odds don’t seem so great.
