Apple Pay now available on public transport in 275 cities in China

Apple Pay Express Card

Apple’s partnership with China’s IC card ticket “China T-Union” has made it possible to pay fares using Apple Pay express cards in 275 cities in China.

Express cards are available in Beijing and Shanghai for some time

Chinese companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi already offer China T-Union fare payment services using Near Field Communication (NFC), but Apple has joined the ranks.

In Beijing and Shanghai, payment of fares using Apple Pay express cards has already been possible.

It was said that Apple Pay was launched in China at the end of 2014, but it took time until February 2016 because it took time for Apple to negotiate with a Chinese bank until it became available.

Apple Pay support and express card use in some areas

Currently, Apple Pay Express Cards are available in countries and regions such as Japan, London (UK), Portland (US), and New York City (US).

In countries such as Australia, Russia, Canada, and Singapore, fares can be paid with Apple Pay, but they do not support NFC and require authentication with a Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.
