Taiwan DigiTimes said that TSMC held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the 3nm process manufacturing facility that was being built at Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP). The facility plans to start semiconductor manufacturing using the 3nm process from 2022.
Significant performance improvement forecast from N5 process
DigiTimes reports that the completed 3nm process will begin commercial semiconductor manufacturing in the second half of 2022 (July-December).
According to Notebookcheck, TSMC’s 3nm process is expected to deliver a 15% performance improvement and a 30% reduction in power consumption compared to the 5nm process.
Will TSMC manufacture A16 with 3nm process?
At TSMC’s 26th Technology Symposium, it was announced that risk production on the 3nm process “N3” will start in 2021 and mass production will start in the second quarter of 2022 (April-June). ..
The N3 is expected to produce the A16, Apple’s 2022 SoC for the iPhone.
