The iPhone in 2020 will increase the possibility of 5G support-it is predicted that 200 million 5G smartphones will be sold

US chip maker Qualcomm announced on November 6th local time that it will sell 200 million 5G smartphones in 2020. Analysts are strengthening their view that Apple will release a 5G-compatible iPhone model next year in response to a report that a 5G-compatible flagship machine equipped with a Qualcomm modem chip will appear next fall.

Qualcomm leads the 5G transition

The next-generation communication standard 5G will allow video viewing and game play on mobile networks to be as fast or faster than Wi-Fi.

“There will be two inflection points in the 5G chip next year,” said Akash Parkivara, Qualcomm's Chief Financial Officer, who produces 5G modem chips.

First, in the spring of 2020, Samsung and several Chinese smartphone manufacturers are expected to release new devices. In the fall of next year, several 5G-compatible flagship machines are expected to appear, and shipments of 5G modem chips are expected to grow significantly.

Will 5G iPhone models appear in 2020?

Apple and Alphabet (Google ’s parent company) come to mind when it comes to smartphone makers who announce new models in the fall. Summit Insights Group analyst Kinguy Chan predicts that Apple will announce an iPhone model with a Qualcomm 5G modem chip next year.

Qualcomm's CEO Steve Morenkov said, “Because we signed a contract with Apple this year, the licensing business continues to show its strength. "We are standing and there will be changes in our product business, but we are seeing signs that we are close to the transition but are finally confident."
