New Apple patent: Apple Watch may be equipped with Touch ID sensor

Today ’s news, according to foreign media reports, many consumers have been hoping to purchase an Apple Watch smart watch with Touch ID for a long time in the past. A new patent application issued by Apple today shows that at least Apple is considering this desire of consumers.

Apple has filed a similar patent application before that, in that patent, Apple hopes to integrate the Touch ID sensor into the iPhone’s power button.

The iPhone patent was issued as early as 2015 and was approved in 2017, while the Apple Watch patent was filed in November 2018, but it was not released until today. The patent shows that Apple is trying to place the Touch ID sensor on the digital crown of the Apple Watch.

Currently, there are two ways for users to unlock the Apple Watch: After entering the PIN code on the screen, or after unlocking the iPhone, the Apple Watch paired with it will also be unlocked automatically. If the Apple Watch integrates the Touch ID sensor, its unlocking process will become more convenient.

There have been calls for Apple to re-enable Touch ID in future iPhones. The company can consider integrating the sensor below the screen or integrating it with the power button.
