End of service on Google Play Music, iOS and Android

Google Play Music

Google’s music streaming service “Google Play Music” officially ended its service on Android, iOS, and websites on the 22nd.

9 years of history

Google Play Music appeared in 2011, but with the introduction of the successor service YouTube Music in 2015, it is a fact that its existence has disappeared in recent years. In September 2019, it was decided to pre-install YouTube Music on behalf of Google Music, and in May 2020, Google announced that the service would be stopped by the end of the year.

It seems that most users are no longer available, but some are still available. In fact, when I tried launching it on Android, at the time of writing (October 24th), I was offered the option to transfer to YouTube Music with the message “Google Play Music will soon be inaccessible”. You could also access the library or station by denying the transfer option.

That said, it’s likely that it won’t be available by December, so users who are currently available may also consider migrating to YouTube Music. You can use YouTube Music for free, but if you become a YouTube Premium member (YouTube Premium), you can use YouTube Music Premium with background playback and ad-free at no additional charge.

YouTube Premium is 1,180 yen per month compared to YouTube Music Premium which is 980 yen per month, but the latter also hides YouTube advertisements, so for users who actively play videos as well as using music streaming services It is also a feature that the merit is great.
