The Remote app that controls Apple TV has recently been removed from the App Store. A former Apple engineer gives more details about the app and the Apple TV remote control.
Developed with Jobs
The Remote app, which controls Apple TV from the iPhone, was recently removed from the App Store due to its built-in functionality in the Control Center. Canistralo, an engineer who has continued to develop Remote apps at Apple following the removal of this app, posted an interesting tweet.
RIP Remote. First app on the App Store; 14 years since I wrote its first line of code. Https://t.co/JNQ6pSMujg

The development of apps to control the Apple TV dates back to 2006, before the iPhone was released (the first Apple TV was released in January 2006, more than half a year before the first iPhone was released). The Rmote app was released as an app to control iTunes and Apple TV. However, Mr. Canistralo seems to have had a plan to install more functions (voting function, etc.).
After that, he received various advice from Steve Jobs and proceeded with the development of the remote control and Remote application for Apple TV. Although Mr. Jobs died on the way and some development stopped, Mr. Jobs’ advice led to the development of Siri Remote.
Apple TV remotes aren’t in their ultimate form yet, Canistralo said. Although the Remote app has been discontinued, the ability to easily control the Apple TV from the control center may have opened up room for development. It may be good to expect not only the evolution of Apple TV but also the evolution of remote control (including operation from iPhone) in the future.
