With the spread of smartphones compatible with 5G communication, Chinese smartphone makers are gaining momentum. Xiaomi had the top share of the number of 5G communication compatible Android smartphones sold in the second quarter of 2021 (April to June). In addition, manufacturers such as realme and Lenovo boast a high growth rate of over 1,000% year-on-year.
Top Xiaomi with 25.7% share
According to research firm Strategy Analytics, shipments of 5G-enabled Android smartphones in the second quarter of 2021 increased 104% year-on-year to 94.6 million units.
Among them, Xiaomi has shipped 24.3 million units and is the leader with a 25.7% share.
In addition, OPPO, Vivo, and realme have a combined OPPO group share of 36.9%, which is higher than Xiaomi.
Samsung, which was the top regular in smartphone share, remains in fourth place with a 15.6% share. Samsung also fell behind Xiaomi in overall smartphone sales and fell to second place.
On the other hand, Huawei still maintains the top position with 95.2 million units shipped from the cumulative 5G communication compatible Android smartphones from the first quarter of 2019 (January to March). However, the growth rate is -86% and it is only a matter of time before it is overtaken.
High growth rate of Lenovo and realme
Lenovo had the highest growth rate, with shipments growing by 3,480% year-on-year.
In addition, realme increased by 1,773% and OnePlus increased by 877%, and these manufacturers are also showing extremely high growth rates.
Smartphone vendors such as Lenovo, relame, OnePlus and Honor are focusing on the middle range, which is not yet dominated by their peers, and are expected to see strong growth from late 2021 to 2022.
Apple wasn’t included in this survey, but it was the top revenue and shipment in the first quarter of 2021.
