Although the market share of AirPods declines, it is still overwhelming than other manufacturers

Apple’s AirPods are so popular that you’ll never see anyone wearing them in the city. In fact, the market share was high, but the share in the third quarter of 2020 (July-September) was significantly lower than that in the fourth quarter of 2019 (October-December). Still, Apple still has an overwhelming share of other manufacturers.

Share plummets from 41% to 29%

According to research firm Counterpoint, Apple’s share of the fully wireless earphone (TWS) market was 41% in the fourth quarter of 2019 (October-December), compared to the third quarter of 2020 (July-September). Dropped sharply to 29%.

This is not due to a decline in sales of the AirPods series, but to intensifying competition, especially in the low-priced TWS range. Counterpoint predicts that the TWS market itself will reach 83% annual growth in 2020.

Still overwhelming compared to other companies

The top five manufacturers in the TWS market for the third quarter of 2020 (July-September) are as follows.

Maker share
Apple 29%
Xiaomi 13%
Samsung Five%
JBL Five%
QCY 3%

Apple still has more than double the share of second-placed Xiaomi, which is overwhelming.

Also, since AirPods are TWS in the mid-to-high price range, Apple seems to be focusing only on its share in the same price range.
