  1. I installed the virtual machine and it ran very well, however my space is very small on MacOS and I decided to clean the Windows installation files, but the disk utility still shows the 64GB allocated for this task. How can I solve this and get my original HD space back?

  2. I have bought Parallels 18 standard 3 months ago, now they realized version 19. Would be nice to make some tests between version 18 and 19 if it's worth upgrading… Because upgrade also costs pretty penny, so would be nice to know if it's worth it

  3. The only thing that kept me from getting a M1 air from my 2017 Intel MacBook Pro was windows. I cannot afford 2 laptops and to carry them around and the apps compability is terrible on the M Mac's.

  4. Good review. I have my doubts about battery life with Parallels installed. Years ago I used it on a 15" MacBook Pro with i9 and with the virtual machine the battery lasted no more than 3 hours while with macOS it was up to 9 hours!
Now I have a MacBook Pro 14" M2 Max with 64Gb RAM and 2Tb SSD I would like to try it but I don't want to create problems with macOS. Can you give me an estimate of battery life with continuous use of Parallels compared to using MacOS alone? Thanks

  5. Another point is virtualized mac under mac – virtualized mac cannot use apple id (no real serial number), so no virtual build machine for ios development… You can run virtual hackintosh on your lenovo, but not on a mac. You cant even run two systems on two drives on a mac, you have to buy two physical machines to have two fully functional macs…

  6. It should be mentioned that under virtualized win you cant use any usb drivers, that are not ment for an arm cpu. No old printers or devices like chip programmers, 3d printers etc… You will have better luck using services like Shadow with remote usb, where the driver runs on x86 hardware…

  7. If I’m running Parallels 19 on a 2021 M1pro MacBook Pro 1TB 16core CPU 16gb ram.

    What’s the ideal windows allocation?
Just want to be able to run windows and some non Mac software on the machine.

    No coding or anything intensive.

Wanting to keep the Mac Host OS running as smooth as possible. But not wanting to slack out on the windows side either.

  8. I used to "professionally" run Windows, virtualised on 2010 dual core MBP via Parallels. Windows put into full screen mode with VS and swipe across and switch to MacOS. Some people thought we were mad. Our big boss hated it. We were Microsoft consultants, working for a Microsoft Gold Partner, selling bespoke Microsoft solutions to corporates… using Macs. Was funny when the bossman got a brand new kitted out Surface with that fulcrum hinge within a day of announcement, across the pond in the UK, showing it off and trying to persuade his dev team to take free laptops and couldn't get my teams boss to stop using his old little Macbook Air.

  9. Being able to run more and more x86/x64 programs on W11 on an M1 with parallels is also pretty great. Been on the beta with W11 arm for a while and it has improved a lot this year.

  10. I loved my 2012 MacBook Pro with Bootcamp. I still use it! What is holding me back from upgrading is the lack of nested virtualization (and bootcamp to some extent). Asahi Linux announced nested virtualization on M2's so there is hope that Apple will release it in their virtualization kit. As for Bootcamp type of functionality, I'm assuming that's in MIcrosoft's court.

  11. Parallels is a terribly greedy company, I remember needing to use it, I spent nearly a $100 and then not even a few months later they force you to upgrade for another $50 to use a new version because a new MacOS launched at the time. Not to mention how horrible their support is for their customers as well. Imagine buying SOFTWARE!!! that becomes obsolete within a few weeks. And because there is no competition, they continue their terrible business practices. So, I don't feel bad at all when I ended up just pirating it instead of becoming a loyal customer. And as a software engineer, I hate software piracy, but a revolution should happen against their greedy corporations. They barely do many updates between versions and expect tons of cash for it, with no guarantees from them…

  12. Running Windows on a Mac is dumb. Paying $3000 for a computer to run Windows, when you can get one just as good for less to me is dumb.

I thought the whole point of getting a Mac, is you don't want to use Windows. So if you put it on your Mac, what are you actually saying?

  13. From the Zoom website: "Virtual background without a green screen is not supported when utilizing the desktop client within a virtual environment." Pretty much makes Windows in Parallels on Mac useless for those of us still reliant on Zoom meetings for 80% of our daily jobs.

  14. Thanks Alex! I'm going to try Parallels and see if the keyboard combos are usable in visual studio (etc)… if so, I can get rid of all these Intel Nucs! woohoo 🙂

  15. I wanted to get the M1 for solely using IT related labs, windows Server system, EVE-NG etc. But M1 doesnt aupport well. (vmware workstation/fusion)

  16. Video idea/request : Make a video with windows 11 development tests (not wsl) like java/android/npm/c++/C# big projects builds. Parallels with windows probably OK too. And compare speeds in windows with Windows Defender ON (default) and than fully OFF(turn off Realtime protection, Self Protection and everything else you find there). From my experience, results could be drastic sometimes. Especially in multicore/multiprocess scenarios.
Note that for quick tests its easier to turn Defender off temporarily in settings, because if you want to add full exclusions you need to add EVERY dev-related path as "folder exclusion" AND "process exclusions" or Defender will still scan it and slow it down.

  17. Thanks for the video. You mentioned about CAD programs on parallels 19. If a ith sufficient RAM around 64 GB on macOS, and then allocating 16GB, or more to parallels 19, do you think it can run software as such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, rendering programs, etc as seamlessly as a high spec windows laptop?

  18. Try playing a game like Cyberpunk with ray tracing on the Mac vs the ROG. 😉 . I'm a Mac user for the last 26 years. ROG is better for gaming (I have a TUF for that), and Mac is better for design and video rendering.
