How to Install Oracle VirtualBox on Mac OS X

This video shows how to install Oracle VirtualBox on a Mac. I hope you find it useful and click Like.

To get started, head over to virtualbox.org, click the download link on the left and then select the download that matches your platform. For this video I chose version 4.2.6 for Mac OS X. The file is just over 100MB to download and then takes up about 225MB total once installed.

VirtualBox is an excellent alternative to VMWare Fusion for your Mac.

For clarification, I installed VirtualBox 4.2.6 on a Macbook running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. At the time of this video my system had 2GB of Ram. That’s enough ram for both the Mac OS to run and a Windows 8 32bit virtual.

  1. nice, this is awesome. just wanna share this, by any chance I have a full install of El Kapitan on 2009 Mac Pro. Performing the interactive installation (VirtualBox 5.1.14 as of today 23January2017), didn't work for me, was just giving me the dialog box that says verifying package all the way, I ended it up. Then did the alternative way unattended installation using terminal app to access directories/files & it worked. https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02.html#idm858

  2. So i have 2 macs at home one can not connect to the Internet and one can if i install virtual box to one mac can i move the installation to the mac without internet? btw they are the same macs or is there a way i can install it to a flash device?

  3. I was able to install it in the Terminal with Homebrew.
    brew cask install virtualbox
cd /opt/homebrew-cask/Caskroom/virtualbox/4.3.32-103443 (your path may be different)
open VirtualBox.pkg (that ran the installer and put it in my Applications folder)

  4. Tried this last nite using a different tut. Initial setup was really easy but i get to the end where i need to point vb to the linux iso im trying to install there is no "folder icon" Spent like a half hour going through settings. When i actually find a place that i can see my .iso, its not clickable.
I was dissapointed you didnt cover the part around where you hit start but thought maybe you could assist? Thats assuming im making my problem clear which is hard to do because its my 1st time trying vb. Thanks
