Apple is renowned for their products’ long support life, but you can use old Macs even after Apple has deemed them obsolete. In today’s video we’ll talk about the factors that lead to Macs being usable more than 10 years after they’re first sold and what you can do to make your Mac last even longer!

  1. nice overview and perspective — have to mention that in the last three years — DOSdudes efforts have been more generalized to Dortana's OCLP Open Core Lecagy Patcher 1.3 which allows you to run the latest macOS Sonama 14.2 on these same vintage machines — old mac hardware is solid, and its great to be able to extend the life and usefulness of these machines. 💻

  2. LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS MACS WAS IN THIS TIME

  3. I still use a Retina MacBook Pro late 2013 as my daily driver until nowadays. I use it to work and it’s completely fine for me. I’m currently running sonoma through opencore on it.

  4. I'm on a 2011 macbook pro. 8GB RAM (enough for what I do), upgraded it to a 512GB SSD, new battery, glass screen cover, trackpad, runs like a charm. I see no reason to upgrade.

  5. My mid-2011 iMac got me through college. Nowadays, it’s my grandma’s computer. She only uses it for online banking but it’s still kicking 12 years later on all original hardware.

  6. I still have my 2011 21.5 iMac I bought refurbished from Apple in 2012 for $900. It sits in a closet now only because I HAD to upgrade three years ago lol. What a work horse for $900. I eventually maxed out the ram but never upgraded the HD. I could still fire her up if I had to but i also can't get rid of her 😢

  7. I mean I have non macs dating back to the 70s that still work. I even use my 2005 mini itx pc board as a controller for many devices in my home.

  8. I’ve averaged 7-10 years of use on my Macs since 1993. My late 2009 Mac mini is still working but hard drive is dead and I also have a 2006 MacBook pro still works but it’s slow and battery is no good. Many software don’t work with it. I currently use a 2017 iMac 27” running macOS Sonoma.

The only Mac that died on me was the Power Mac G4 tower, I swapped out the power supply and it works fine.

  9. That moment, when Youtuber needs to push sponsor. This is the worst possible time, to buyold mac. x86 is fasing out of support. Latest apps and OS doesn't support x86 MAC anymore. Old MAC's became obsolete in November. It is better then to buy M1 or M2 MAC with 16 GB RAM an 512 GB SSD, thous computers will support latest OS for atleast 6-8 years from now…

  10. My desktop machine is a 5,1 Mac Pro. I know it's not bleeding edge, but with confirmed support for 128GB and possibly 256GB of RAM, they are absolutely insane in their upgradability.

  11. Thanks for this older Apple hardware video…much appreciated! The Mac does last an incredibly long time without having to reinstall everything from scratch which happens with PCs. The only issue I have with older Macs is Apple itself. After a 9 or 10 year run, Apple no longer supports hardware with updates to it's iOS system. If it wasn't for that, Macs would almost last indefinitely.
