iPhone Stuck In SOS Mode? Here’s The REAL Fix!

David & David explain how to fix the problem when your iPhone is stuck in SOS Mode. When your iPhone says SOS or SOS Only, it isn’t connected to a wireless network, but you can still make emergency phone calls.

Most of the time, your iPhone says #SOS or SOS Only because you’re out of range of your carrier’s network, and to fix it, you’ll need to go somewhere with coverage.

But sometimes your iPhone can get stuck on SOS Mode even in areas where you should have coverage.

Quickly toggling Airplane Mode on and back off again gives your iPhone a fresh chance to connect to your carrier’s wireless network.

If you’re traveling internationally, check your data roaming settings. Just be careful, as data roaming can get very expensive if you’re not careful.

It’s a good idea to check for a carrier settings update. Carrier settings updates are released by your wireless carrier and Apple to improve your iPhone’s connection to your carrier’s network. You can manually check for this type of update in Settings → General → About.

Next, try ejecting and re-seating your iPhone’s SIM card. Your iPhone’s SIM card is what connects it to your carrier’s wireless network. It’s possible the SIM card has become dislodged or damaged, leaving your iPhone stuck on SOS mode. If you have eSIM, toggle your plan off and back on again in Settings → Cellular.

If your iPhone is still stuck in SOS Mode, check for an iOS update. Some software updates include “modem” updates, which help improve your iPhone’s connection to wireless networks.

To address a deeper software problem, try reseting the network settings on your iPhone. This erases all the Wi-Fi, Cellular, VPN, and APN settings to factory defaults.

  1. Should be a ton of views today after the US did a nationwide test for every single handset just 1h ago, but neither the airplane mode on/off nor wifi on/off nor phone power off/on cleared "SOS Only" despite being squarely in the 5G network range.

  2. Thank you so much, I got the "No Sim Card" error and it was stuck on SOS even after I restarted my Iphone. Thankfully the Airplane Mode method fixed my issue, crossing my fingers and hoping this doesn't happen again.

  3. I think it’s total bull crap I have done the airplane mode often on situation and my phone has been stuck on SOS mode for about 10 minutes and it’s been happening lately and I do not know why but that’s ridiculous

  4. I have tried all the steps, it didn’t fixed the issue. Have taken to the Verizon store fixed in a jiff. Here’s what he did.
    Step 1: connect to WiFi
Step 2: deleted e-simcard and a min later it shows activate service under settings menu.
    Step 3: my problem fixed.

Additional step: if you have same issue Try to change imei number to 2nd one and try the same process.

Problem my phone has its not recognizing the e-sim with the imei number. Once these steps has followed it worked for me.

Note: do this when you have time to go to store not a busy time. Just in case if it doesn’t work. you are not really stressing out.

  5. I had to go in under Cellular on my iOS device and go to my phone number and turn on the “Turn On This Line” option. Somehow it got switched off somehow.

  6. Lmaooo these guys are lifesavers I’m 15 and wasn’t tryna make my mom mad so the first thing I do click airplane mode off and on now it works lol thanks

  7. Before any of you do anything, go to your settings and go to phone, then go to my number. Check if that number is accurate or if you have a number at all there, for some odd reason my number was gone and i had to put it back in but before that i tried every method you can think of i even contacted apple and they couldn’t help, all i did was put my number back in an then reset my phone and the sos is gone

  8. There was one tip here that I haven't seen on any other site, but it didn't work for me so I am at the going to the AT&T store to see what is up lol.
