The Dimensity 9300, the Android flagship chip released by MediaTek this year, uses large cores to achieve stunning performance scores and achieve outstanding results. It is reported that next year’s Dimensity 9400 will continue the same strategy, and some reports claim that MediaTek will be able to defeat Qualcomm in all aspects.
According to the foreign media “WCCftech” citing Chinese media sources, although the Dimensity 9400 does not use 4 Cortex-X5 super cores provided by Arm, it is still a full-core architecture and will not go back to choosing small efficiency cores. Dimensity 9400 will be based on TSMC N3 technology, and its performance will surpass Qualcomm in all aspects, and will target brands such as Oppo, vivo, and Xiaomi.
In the past, mobile phone chips would store multiple sets of small efficiency cores to perform simple tasks in a power-saving manner. However, starting from this year, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 will abandon these small cores and use larger ones with better performance. Core replacement, it is believed that reducing computing time can also achieve the effect of power saving.
Qualcomm is also rumored to adopt a similar design. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will be launched next year, is rumored to have an architecture of 2 ultra-large cores and 6 large cores. Compared with the already released Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which has a “1+5+2” architecture and still retains 2 small cores, Qualcomm may stack more powerful CPUs to enhance computing capabilities.
“WCCftech” analyzed that in addition to its performance advantage, MediaTek also has a price advantage. Qualcomm has confirmed that it will use Oryon’s in-house core in the next generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It is expected that the cost will be slightly higher than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in pursuit of performance.
