  1. Thanks @Britec09 I have been facing a weird issue since past one month after installing 22H2 updates my battery drains within 30 mins. I have to keep my charger connected all the time. Can you help?

  2. One recent update, upon actually applying it I swore it borked my system. 2+ hr of little 2ms blips from the hdd activity every 5s or so.

Eventually gave up and switched it off. BIG MISTAKE–retrying the update gave me an error and no combination of removing old updates or system restore would allow it. Fresh install thanks MS!

  3. Ok Brian now I don't have any problems with most updates but I do an update (a definition one KB2267602) that is downloaded everyday I check for updates and is there any way that I can stop this happening? I tried looking for issues with this update but found nothing of any use or any information that would tell me why this particular update keeps repeating itself – now up to 50 downloads and installs. Have checked with the ESET security and there are no issues reported. Actually I find it really annoying anyway that Microsoft put out updates that have bugs it smacks of a real slackness in their workforce. I mean if I made a mistake when I was working as a Registered Nurse I was dragged over the coals for making even the smallest of mistakes.

  4. In days long past… SysAdmins would always hold off updates until necessary, as seasoned IT staff knew all too well the cost of broken systems, the common mantra was dont install service pack 1 until service pack 2 was released and so on…. its no longer safe to do this since the cat was let out of the bag as far as buffer overflow exploits are concerned… 'Code Red' was a shining example of what happens to systems facing the internet that are not fully patched… so these days you 2 options…. either patch straight away and risk it busting your box, or run it without being patched up and risk it getting Pwned! I do regular backups to help mitigate against a disaster but it seems most people dont.

  5. I guess I have been just lucky, so far never really had a serious issue with updates. well one time years ago I had to uninstall one, other than that everything has been good. One thing I have noticed is that most (not all) had to do with Intel components or hardware, if I recall correctly that one I had at that time was on an Intel system. I have been using AMD ever since, not saying that's the reason just that I guess I have been lucky. The updates seem to also affect certain GPU's, either NVIDA or G Force or other. I do not game so I have no use for a separate GPU, mine are all on board graphics, which is fine for me because I currently do not use or run anything that requires it. But if you do or are a gamer then yes, you would require a very good and expensive GPU, not to mention better cooling. For me that is just an additional expense that I do not need for a simple, working , budget friendly low cost system without skimping on CPU, Ram, PSU and storage. if you build your own, build for your need and within your budget. Also plan a build that will have some longevity for more than four years, plan for eight. Which sometimes that can be a challenge because of Microsoft's ever changing requirements. Anyway that's just my opinion.

But your advice on pausing certain updates is sound and wise. It's good common sense!
    Thank you Brian

  6. Hi Brian. I see you have a classic start menu. How did you managed it? I use Openshell, but that one only show it's own greenshell icon, instead of a windows logo.

  7. I see you've got 23H2 … Windows is STILL not offering that to me. 🙄

(Yes, I do have the "enabler" KB installed – but it's simply not giving the final piece of the puzzle to complete the update).
