Tesla Cybertruck Details Revealed – Thoughts, Overview and Which Model to Get!

Tesla just released the long awaited Tesla Cybertruck just yesterday, and it represented the end of a 4 year wait for what is likely the most anticipated vehicle release in modern times. With this release, Tesla has officially entered the Truck Market in the U.S., which is quite possibly the most cut throat segment of the auto industry.

4 years ago when Elon Musk announced the details of the Tesla Cybertruck, he shared details on what the ideal Cybertruck would be, look like, and cost. Since then, delays and changes have kept this truck from being a reality, and although a number of features have been removed, some features have been added.

Now knowing pricing, which comes in about 30k higher for the Dual Motor and Tri Motor Cybertruck than announced, and 20k higher for the RWD Cybertruck, we have all had a chance to digest the significant increase in price, and significant change in range expectations. On the lower end, things were pretty much what was announced or slightly better, except for price. As you step up to Dual Motor and Tri Motor Cybertruck, also called Cyberbeast, you start to fall farther away from the announced specs from 4 years ago.

It would seem that the first few years of Cybertruck production have been “earmarked” for the most wealthy Tesla customers, as the $100k price tag on the top trim has far exceeded may budgets of customers. Until demand softens, it is unlikely that these prices will come down anytime soon. That said, it is important to note that Tesla is always working on reducing cost and bringing prices down.

After having sifted through all the details, although I am disappointed on price, I am obviously still a customer. Instead of the top trim Tri Motor Cybertruck, I will be going with the Dual Motor, and will start to save up for the Range Extender to be added later. No options can be added to retain the tax credit, so I will stick firm on not adding anything to the truck up front.

Let me know your thoughts on the details being released, and what you plan on doing in the comments.

  1. How are you doing? My name is James love your videos and knowledge about Tesla’s but I have a question for you I took my Tesla model y in to have the high voltage battery replaced and when I got it back my miles went from 308 to 291. My question , is this something I just have to live with or does Tesla have to fix this issue?

  2. I saw another pod cast the other day where they stated the two MOST important items Consumers want in an electric vehicle are: 1) RANGE, ie how far the vehicle will go on a single charge and: 2) What is the CHARGING SPEED to get to an acceptable level in a (relatively) short amount of time. They said the Cybertruck Falls Short on both of these features. This needs to be verified to know if these items will specifically determine if customers will put off buying an EV until these capabilities have been improved.

  3. The 14-50 outlet does not make it bidirectional charging. Bidirectional uses the same port to charge the vehicle and charge another. It has an onboard inverter that you can plug and EVSE into to charge another EV. It accomplishes the same thing. Please use the correct terminology.

  4. Model x plaid over a 1000 HP with 5300 lb goes 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds . Cyber beast is 1300 pound more and with just 845 HP it can do 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds. Is cycberbeast optimized so that it gives much more performance or is plaid getting restricted from it’s potential

  5. Folks, relax, the difference between what was announced 4 years ago to today is nothing more then reality, bumping up against prediction, and uncle Elon always over promises…………

  6. I agree the price is very high but I’m looking to the future when it comes to pricing. The price will initially be high due to high demand at start but once the preorders are done the prices will drop. Tesla can produce vehicles much cheaper than other car brands due to their process of making vehicles (ie stamping and molding). The prices will drop for sure but the range I think should have been better. You definitely need higher range for towing and trucks are made to towing.

  7. I haven’t heard anyone mentioning this but my guess is Tesla just wants to cash in on early adopters. They already shown with all the other models that they will adjust the price based on supply and demand. So since production will be slow for the next year or so why not cash in on anyone that is willing to pay that much and by the time they will ramp up the production and catch up to the demand they will adjust the price accordingly. But for the next year and the first 50k-100k trucks I’m sure they will find enough buyers that just can’t wait to get one asap. So I have a feeling you will be paying a YouTube tax on this thing Jason.

  8. RWD in 2025 for $50k -> $42.5k after the initial excitement has subsided, and Tesla can ramp at higher volumes for less cost. That's my plan, if it comes to fruition or not 😅 I held out for 39999 Model Y I can do it for Cybertruck to do a similar move.

  9. I am disappointed in the Cybertruck's outrageous price. When Elon did not mention anything about the price, you knew something was up. I wonder if he did mention the price at the delivery event, he would have gotten some loud "booooooos" from the crowd. 😡

  10. I'm with you, the only thing that I'm really disappointed with is the price. As a truck owner that does "truck things" all the time, I need a truck. Our experience with my wifes Model Y has been incredible. I have a rather late reservation for the CT, so I'm banking on the price to come down significantly in the next year. 🤞

  11. They have 2+ million people in line to buy this truck. They will make 250k per year when at full ramp. When you have such a low production rate and such a high demand, what would be the point to sell it at loss? Prices went up even 20% in the 4 years that passed. This truck is costing Tesla a lot more than they predicted (they had to rethink everything from scratch). I would not be surprised if even at these steep prices they barely earn something at the moment. Also there is the battery cell problem: if you use them for Tesla Semi and Cybertruck, you can't use them for Model 3 or Y (that are the top sold models and that are much cheaper to manufacture). So, in the end, the batteries are the same. Why use them in a car you lose money on, when you can use them for differnt cars that make you earn billions? Prices will go down, but don't hold your breath. The advent of the cheap EV is still far away

  12. Very disappointing release event. Range decrease with features removed and a giant price hike. Will now only get one and wait for silverado or ram to change the fleet. 80k for a truck with less than 400 miles of range was the biggest disappointment along with towing capacity.

  13. The 3500lbs payload advertised up until a week ago dropped to 2500 was a major bummer for those of us with 5th Wheels and Super Duty trucks – I drive a F350 limited – looking to go the Cybertruck route. 2500lbs is not going to cut it for the downforce of a 5th wheel. Tesla will lose much of the big boy truck market with this downgrade.

The tent accessory? Cheap built turd. That thing is SUPER disappointing. What a waste of money.
Have to pay for the under-backseat storage? Come on.
Spare tire that takes up bed space? WTF Tesla? Terrible.

Don't get me wrong. I really like it. It's just so much practical stuff they just didn't think about. They got so caught up in the amazing stuff, they forgot the everyday stuff. I don't know.

  14. People must always remember that "INITIAL PRODUCTION" is always more expansive. Mark my word that after the full production is level off, Tesla will reduce the price like the rest of their line-up.

  15. Awesome reporting, as per usual!

About the $30,000 price increase for the dual motor, I would dismiss at least $7,500 of that because of the government contribution, and about $10,000 due to general inflation since then. That leaves about a $12,500 "real" increase that a buyer would need to absorb.

What I would also consider is that the dual motor Cybertruck and the dual motor model Y were approximately identical in price at the time of the initial unveiling (~$49,990). All this time later, after so many changes, the Y is at practically the same point, down $1,000, at about $48,990. And the battery size of the Y has gone up a bit to around 82 kWH from around 78 or 79 kWH, whereas the Cybertruck has a battery at around 123 kWH. (And is still made of super-duper stainless steel.) In consideration that that is equivalent to 9 (!) Powerwalls, and that that power is accessible at 240 volts, I could EASILY justify that additional $12,500 as we seriously consider that purchase (i.e., an extra 40 kWH for an extra $12,500).

And one more thing, both Ford and Rivian had certain very attractive initial pricing on their trucks, but which they pretty quickly abandoned (and Rivian even tried to get away with not honoring prices of vehicles already in the purchase process). I think that Tesla will hold reasonably well with the new pricing (unless forced for some time into a demand/wait time-management situation like what occurred with the Y), with the pricing needed to reflect the reality of what is going to cost to make already worked into the new pricing.

  16. I think it’s a cool looking truck on the exterior , but for me it has to many things that I find impractical. Also the interior to me look a little meh , the dash looks so wide lol , this is the first Tesla car that I have zero desire to own but I’m also not into trucks , for people who need something like this I’m sure it will be a good product for them. It does have a lot cool factor but pricey
