Linus has been using Samsung phones for quite a while now, but after reading constant leaks, he found himself falling for the Pixel hype cycle. With lofty camera claims, a new focus on AI, and a built-in thermometer(?), will Linus be impressed, or has Google promised more than they can deliver?

  1. 8:08 – If you go to the "Face Unlock" settings, there's a "Skip lock screen" setting. When turned on, you don't have to interact with the device to unlock it
8:15 – if you go to the "Lock screen" settings, there's a "Always show time and info" setting (aka always on display). When turned on, you don't have to wake the device to use the fingerprint reader
8:22 – On the "Lock screen" settings, there's a "Lift to check phone" setting that needs to be turned on which may not be on by default

  2. He calls it a camera bump. I call it a finger rest when holding the phone with one hand. Complaining about that is not a complaint to be had. That's just a reviewer who's completely disconnected from the phone he's reviewing.

  3. damn it Google… I was really hoping you would save me from Samsung. I dont want to buy a Flip or Fold and those are the only route from a Note 20 ultra. But the 8 Pro is too big and Linus's complaints about the gloss edge are right on. Make us an 8 pro in smaller form factor with matte edges.

  4. Really, the Pixels is one of a few phones (or line of phones) I'd be comfortable with using for 4 or 5, maybe even 6 years. Who knows, 7 years might be doable. I'll keep you posted. 😋

  5. I went from Pixel 2XL to Pixel 6 Pro, with the promise of the 5 years of security updates blah blah..
Barely over 2 years owning the 6 Pro and the SIM reader is dead, effectively making it a small tablet. (even my provider is confused, the eSIM isn't working either)
Meanwhile, my 2XL is coming in clutch with the cell connectivity and hot-spotting, while I ponder purchasing another Tensor device and risk the whole thing happening again.
I've already seen mentions online of Pixel 7/8 having the same SIM issues..
Screwing up basic stuff like cellular connectivity, while focusing too much on cameras, is sadly souring my Nexus/Pixel lineage.

  6. I picked the google 6a about 2 years ago. I ended up upgrading to the iPhone 15 256. It’s about the same size as the pixel 6a. Things I will miss from the pixel is the music feature and the call screening . If google could make the software apps more premier. The apps like the messaging app needs an overhaul. I think Apple nailed the keyboard out of the gate . When you price your phone at the same cost of an iPhone people are just going to buy an iPhone.

  7. I just bought a pixel 8 and have been using a pixel 2 since it came out lol. I put that thing through hell and it's still running good enough lol. I think I'll be happy with the longevity of the pixel 8.

  8. Why non of these reviews not telling people Google is cheating here with CPUs of these devices. There is no company or SOC called Tensor. Tensor chips do not exist. It's a Samsung Exynos 2400 CPU which Google claims as a Tensor 3 chip. Google is buying the design of Pixel phones from HTC and CPU from Samsung! Basically HTC who is developing Pixel phones with Exynos Chips. 😅 Nothing special about Pixel phones at all boring and odd devices.

  9. Most of the stuff uou complain about is either subjective or a setting. Esprcially at the begining…you have to set it to wake-on-touch on the lock screen, and I find that annoying (but you expected it)–It's off by default. The camera bump/bar makes holding the phone in portrait much easy as you canrest your fingers on it, also doesn't "wobble if you try to type on a flat surface. Yes, you have to download the awesome AI photo editing suite after unboxing–it is awesome. They said the thermometer isn't ready for bio-temp readings just yet, software update pending…I have no "delay issues either with the fingerprint or camera on my 8 pro, at all and I could not recreate the sticking effect…I thought I saw it once, but on playback it was smooth…To each their own, have fun answering spam / junk calls on your Samsung, or not being able to have AI make reservations, hold on the phone, etc… just the call screening & AI features and audio quality on the call are miles above any competitor. Also distortion on max volume? I didn't even hear it in your video, replayed the section twice? How much did Samsung pay you for this review?
