  1. I'm trying to decide whether the 7950X or 7950X3D is better for me. I do 3D visualisation and apparently the higher core speed of the 7950X (4.5 vs 4.2) would benefit me more than the increased L3 cache of the 7950X3D (128MB vs 64MB). I also love gaming, but my monitor is capped at 60fps so I don't need a crazy high frame rate which is the main benefit of the 7950X3D.

I hear the 7950X runs quite hot and eats a lot more power when compared to the 7950X3D. Any advise on which CPU to go with?

  2. I "upgraded" pc 1 from 7950X to 7950x3d and put the 7950X in pc 2. I regret it. It's not stabile, it's utter rubbish. Returning it and buying a second 7950X for pc 1. Never had problems with 7950X and plays everything 4K on ultra settings.

  3. All you have to do is limit the 7950x in BIOS to 140w and or 82C and it runs fine with no heat issues at all.
I did that from day one after watching some yt videos and never had a single issue with heat on a 360 rad.
But doing so I lose about 7% performance over max unlimited power, so.. I guess that would negate its 2% lead over the 3D version.
So probably in the final analysis, the 3D chip is better, but not better enough to upgrade… but if you game a lot or that's all you do, then it's probably worth buying.
I'm going to wait for the 9000 or better series chips before I upgrade.

  4. This is a complicated topic. I wouldn’t really consider it an upgrade though, it is a “side grade.” You don’t get x3d vcache on all of its 16 cores. What you get are 2 ccds that run on different speed/frequency, as one ccd has the extra 3d vcache for gaming and the other ccd with faster clock speed has a smaller cache, no 3d vcache designed for productivity. AMD shot themselves in the foot by doing this similar to the 7900x3d. Badly engineered, terrible concept. Whoever designed this should be fired for having a half baked, lackluster cpu.

  5. For those looking to use or are using the 7950x3D, would ProcessLasso be a good tool to use? You can designate the game to use only the 3D CCD.

  6. I could get the 7950x 300 bucks cheaper before the x3d launch. At that point a proper gaming build 7800x3d would make more sense. Not, that the 7950x wouldnt be more than enough to game

  7. If u arent into gaming or u use ur pc for productivity instead get the 7950x. If u are into gaming get the 7800x3d, forget about 7950x3d it honestly in my opinion shouldnt even exist.

  8. Whats weird about reviewing this CPU for gaming is … are you really going to spend all that money on a 7950x3D and a 4090 to game at … 1080p? I get that the test configuration is setup to test the CPUs, but I hope people out there aren't using these configs just to do 1080p gaming.
