In this video, a former Apple tech explains why your iPhone is frozen and shows you how to fix the problem for good. If your iPhone keeps freezing, it’s usually the result of a software issue.

The first thing to do when your iPhone is frozen is to perform a hard reset. This is NOT a permanent fix. It’s like using a band-aid when you really need stitches. To perform a hard reset on an iPhone 6s or older, press and hold the power button and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears on your iPhone’s display. If you have an iPhone 7 or newer, press and hold the power button and the volume down button instead.

Next, look to see if your a specific app the reason why your iPhone keeps freezing. A glitchy app may be constantly crashing, causing your iPhone to freeze. If your iPhone freezes when you use a built-in app, go to the Settings app, tap on the app, and look for any problems.
You can also Settings, Privacy, Analytics, Analytics Data and check for app crashes. Look for the phrase “LatestCrash” next to the name of the app. If it says LatestCrash over and over again next to a specific app, you’ve identified that app is the problem.
If you notice your iPhone is frozen even after you’ve checked Analytics Data, trying resetting all settings. This will erase all of your saved settings and set them to factory defaults.
