An excellent and very clear tutorial. I feel empowered to set up Time Machine & even venture into partitions. Thanks so much!
Hello. I keep getting a failed to backup time machine. 🙁 It says this "Time Machine could not create a local snapshot to back up from." Any videos on this error? I have no space on my computer so it's about to crash and my phone icloud is also full. I bough an HD and partitioned it as directed above which worked great and I was able to setup time machine perfectly. However one day my computer had the error message of unable to backup time machine. Ugh, So i redid the directions of this video which worked perfectly, but when it came to setting up time machine it now only gives me the error and the message. "Time Machine could not create a local snapshot to back up from."..
Thanks! So easy to follow along as you instruct.
You are making this too difficult and too many steps.i Also you need to talk about if you have a RAID type external.
great video my friend!!!!
Time Machine does not see or recognize my external Seagate HD…..and I did erase it before starting time machine
On Catalina? Just format the ext disk as Apple journaled, then let Time Machine do the rest. I tried doing it the way in the video and it refused to start backup.
Is it better to use Time Machine to transfer files to external hard drive or is it better to copy from mac to external hard drive?
Hey is it possible to set up time machine to the internal hard drive?
Helped a lot! Thank you!
Why is my macbook time machine "unable to create local snapshot to back up from" I have been googling, and there seems to not be a solution. It used to work prior to updating to catalina, but now it "could not create a local snapshot to back up from"
It did not work with Catalina. For some reason it says that I have two discs with the same name.
Why does time machine backup save as backupbundle which does not show up when I try to restore from it? I want it to be a sparsebundle.
Why format to OS Extended (Journaled) when Catalina is APFS? Also, How can we use Time Machine if Catalina doesn't support it?
Hi, your tutorials are excellent. I’m getting to grips with time machine but it doesn’t seem to be backing up an additional external hard drive that I have photos on. It’s in the inclusion list on the tm options. I’m pretty sure it’s not backed up because tm data used is less than that on the other hard drive. Any suggestions please.
Time machine DOES NOT work with exFat filesystem, I tried that and I was promoted to format to journaled. As of OS 10.15.5
This was a GREAT explanation! Thank you very much.
Many thanks fo detailed video..
