Samsung One UI 6: Is Android 14 for Galaxy better than Pixel UI?

Samsung’s One UI 6 is here, bringing Android 14 to the Galaxy S23 series, and it’s got me thinking about how phone UI has evolved over recent years.

Every now and again, there’ll be an enormous *big-deal* design overhaul — something like an iOS 7 or Android 12, that completely changes the look and feel of the platform. Then, over the years, more and more *stuff* gradually gets piled on top of that UI until, inevitably, the house of cards collapses and there’s another major overhaul — another generational design change.

And it feels sorta like we’re at the end of that cycle now with Samsung, five years on from the debut of this design language in One UI 1.0. But at the same time, One UI 6, I think, gives us a small glimpse of what’s beyond, in Samsung’s next design cycle. Let’s take a look at what’s new!

  1. The problem with android; pixel hardware with issues but lovely software with bugs. Samsung hardware thats gorgeous with software that's playing catch up with pixel. Then theres color OS, funtouch, harmony and every other OS that we convince ourselves are interesting but really meh

  2. The only thing Samsung did right with their design is reachability. Dividing the screen into viewing area and interaction area is the brilliant idea, and no one did it, and now they are dumping it. Btw animations are terrible, samsung is way behind stock android

  3. I hate Googles quick launch area. It looks so old and antiquated, having to do extra clicks to handle things like days of old, instead of the one click modern day One UI 6. And the One UI6 quick launch menu looks better, more modern and useful, besides being more efficient. Why settle for antiquated when you can have cutting edge????

  4. They're doing well with OneUI, there are some stuff that need improvement, like what you mentioned about fluidity. The way it looks in general is not my absolute favorite, I never really liked samsung's skin that much, but it's probably my second favorite out of what's available now, my top choice being Material U, but we don't have Pixels here in Syria, so Samsung it is.

  5. i dont trust them anymore. bought a curved glass monitor that broke in 6 months. they expected me to pay to ship it back. then a few months later they bricked my watch with an update and wouldnt do jack.

  6. You can select several icons on iOS and scroll through home screens to move them, similar to Samsung. That has been a feature for a very long time in iOS. 🙂

  7. I rather Samsung would work on battery life and better cell coverage. They are the mayor important parts of a phone.
You might keep putting new wallpapers and themes at the beginning but in the end you will settle for just one.

  8. Yes, One UI 6 is better than Android 14 on the Pixel. A14 is a minor update, while One UI 6 is huge! Samsung is fun. Pixel is boring. You can't even change the font style on Pixel. Who cares if it's not Roboto. If you don't like it, you can change it. It's all about options. Pixels customization is limited almost as much as iPhone's. Material You is horrible! It's supposed to get minor improvements with Android 14, but rn you can only choose muted pastels for your accent colors. Pixel is MUCH more iPhone-like than Samsung. Again, anything you don't like on Samsung you can change, either natively, with Good Lock or a different launcher. Customization is endless with Samsung. Pixel also limits some of its best features to it's newest devices. Samsung doesn't do that.

  9. Samsung needs to release a new ui. I know oneui is good. But still has the samsung stutter and lag. Especially after 3 months or longer. Plus its 5 years old. It's getting long in the tooth by now
