Apples Self Repair Program Is Not What It Seems

I never though I would see the day that Apple sold parts and tools to the public. But its not quite as good as it seems.

  1. I brought 2 of my iPhones to an Apple Store for batteries replacement and the technicians broke both of the phones. That’s how difficult it is to work on Apple phones even for Apple’s own technicians.

  2. I have the iPhone XR and just cracked my phone screen today. I was hoping to eventually replace it myself but I don't how it affect it. My phone also doesn't say it has True Tone but it acts like it does I think. I don't know

  3. This program is virtually useless. They put alot of barriers in place to prevent new users from signing up. It seems like they are trying to make it difficult, because if you want to replace a battery which should normally take 90 seconds takes almost a week, because you need to give them the phone’s serial number all of that crap, meaning you cannot stock up on batteries if you are someone who owns a repair shop or business. Further more, they are still almost charging more for the screen or battery than the phone, but also they don’t do anything besides batteries and screens. So if your laptop goes bad, nope, just batteries and screens. If your USB port isn’t working, sorry, just batteries and screens. It is just a worthless program.

  4. Makes sense. It you could pair any face id to any iphone easily and by yourself, you could bypass the security of the device. This is the only way to do it securely. I don’t understand why these technicians would not mention this

  5. What happened in that calibration process. Was quite a lot different than what I'd have imagined. I thought it would just connect to a server, check the serial numbers and have you do a few quick actions. And not that a service employee would actually have to get involved. Maybe they're worried about reverse engineering if it ran automated, though.

  6. It's not even about it being easily repairable. For some housewife who never tried to disassemble the phone even the most repair-friendly piece of tech would seem irreparable. However here it is completely different.
The calibration process, required for phone to properly function, can't be continued if it was interrupted. Let's imagine there was no issue with LIDAR, everything went smooth and calibration proceeded. But while it was in process, power outage happenned. Wifi obviously shuts off, interrupting the process. Can it be restarted? As far as I understand, it can't. So now, to use the full functionality of the phone you need to send it to Apple for them to recalibrate it(hopefully they can and won't blame you for interruption of the calibration).
So on top of the cost of self-repair kit, you'll probably have to pay service and calibration costs to Apple.

  7. yeah, we really need to attack this as an environmental issue. so many "junk" phones get tossed. meanwhile, i can fully customize and upgrade an old iPod. it's such an incredible waste of resources

  8. I don't understand… I have always been a Samsung guy, not because I don't like Apple, but just because I have never had a problem, EVER, with their products. I have never cracked my screen, broken my camera, nothing. I've gotten it wet before (like underwater wet), and had to let it dry before charging, but even then, every single model I have ever had has never needed repair. I know a lot of the crappier Android brands need repair frequently, but those are usually cheap and crappy phones to begin with. Why would Apple, which is more expensive without better features than my Samsung need so many repairs? I'm not a careless person, but I'm also not a very careful person, so those excuses are BS. Sounds like Apple plans for their phones to break and need repairs. Crazy.

  9. I would not be surprised if in the future Apple starts a monthly subscription to use your phone with different plans. Lowest plan giving you access for 2 hours and the highest for the whole day and rebrand the idea as Apple's way to fight phone addiction 😂

  10. Anyone who has watched Apple's grossly obscene and unfair attitude previous already knows "Apples Self Repair Program"
is a joke. Apple is simply engaging is PR, they HATE folks who have the cheek to actually FIX their possession…. Any after
all of this dishonesty the sheep STILL buy these ripoffs….amazing.

  11. With regard to the tax on the prices: the majority of products sold in the US do not include tax in their list price. This is because tax is determined by the state, and for an online order would only be calculated upon the buyer indicating their state.

  12. No, ever since Apple strictly enforces this many peoples lifes have been saved by not getting shot and murdered for an iPhone or it's parts, as sad as it is.

  13. You can actually use isoproypl mixed with just a bit of acetone.

Acetone is often used on logic boards and what not, but will melt plastics. Idk what is plastic in the phone, but if you keep it localized, it should take off adhesives better than isoproply by itself.

  14. So should an iphone take a hit, ot buy a new one, or might as well buy a new one for the money thats gonna go into their obtuse repair scheme.

Downright shameful, and for no reason other than to force a new purchase overall. It's literally useless unless it gets to Apple HQ where they can apply the "master key" to ultimately make a refurbished device.

  15. I still dont understand how this garbage company is one of the biggest in the world, I guess there are too many idiots in the world spending their money on trash like this.

  16. Ah, the unobtainium is unmatched.
Apples display heater was shown to be worse.
It probably used the old calibration, and didn't need very much calibration
