If you're buying (or have bought) an M3 MacBook Pro… what was the main driver for getting it?
Your approach was very informative. I'm a Audio Engineer, And i'm upgrading from a 15' Macbook Pro Retina 2011. I have not experienced the silicon chips yet. And i was torn between purchasing the M1. But after careful consideration, i have noticed that for the amount that i would be paying for a 64GB Unified memory/1TB mac, i'm better off going with the M3 MAX. Now if only apple would have refurbished model of the silver color that would be great. Thank you so much for your contribution!!!

I am a video specialist at a big moto corporation. I still have an intel Macbook pro 2017. Its a nightmare to edit. I have been presenting for 2 years to upgrade to the new M chip. Editing on the old intel is killing my soul! Hopefully this year I can get a M3 Pro Max P.S working at a corporate takes every energy to get things across the line….Like why a video specialist needs a decent laptop to edit on..
The real question is, while you want the extra RAM, do you really need it? Were you editing hi-res (RAW 4K +) footage, on a dense timeline, with mo-graf layers and the machine just couldn't cut it? Or are you "future proofing?"

Does 14" M3 Max thermal throttling? And how is the fan noise?
It's not "700£ more expensive". It's 700 + {whatever depreciation you have suffered when selling the M1 Max} for those 8 & 2 seconds. Those are some damned expensive seconds. :))
So, you did not upgrade the unified memory? You kept it at 48GB? You simply upgraded the storage to add an additional terabyte?
Apple.. The king of minimum upgrade at the maximum price

I’m going through similar thing – bought highest 16” store had but it only has 48 GB Unified memory (upgrade for 100 more??🤪) AND it’s only 1T hard drive!! That’s the part that’s bothering me the most. I wanted to buy a bigger one but it said online it would take 3 weeks! I’m 1.5 weeks post ACL surgery and want to edit video now dang it! 😂 Why must the store refuse to carry anything higher than 1T???

I wonder what m3 ultra will be like
If 32GB of memory is enough for me to run Cyberpunk with hardware acceleration and fully path traced at 4K on a 50” display… there’s no way the average MacBook user needs more. If you have some kind of Jon that requires you to push the boundaries of modern computing, carry on. I just can’t see how more than 32GB of RAM is worth the expense for the average user. Put that money into more disk space or a better processor. Just my two cents.
I always say do your homework and see,will the upgrade make much of a difference. … graphics,and multimedia no. The truth is the part of the chip doing this over the three models hasn’t changed. Apple just churns out various Mac iterations to confuse buyers and take their money. I got the Mac Air as it meets my needs ,although I didn’t really need it as I have a powerful windows PC and laptop. I need to cure my GAS. 😂😂😂😂Like the comparisons,cheers.

I got this in a Windows laptop from Lenovo
13 gen i9 13980hx
128 GB DDR5 5600 MHZ RAM
16 GB Nvidia RTX 5000
16"" anti glare, anti-reflection anti-smudge 100% DCI P3 touchscreen monitor (FYI apple is nowhere close to this spec – both my daughter and wife use their own M2 Pros. i am the only Windows and Android guy in the family and laughing about it)
And I love this machine. Unlike with Apple, I can spec it up or change parts later or upgrade my RAM even more if I wish.
In the end – each to their own. My machine is modular, apple doesn't give you that and I don't pay when I don't have financial freedom to play with my device. And so I will settle with a machine that doesn't have a monopoly over the one with a brand monopoly.
intel is coming a long way now. Their 10nm process i9 13980hx is a beast. wait until they do it in 3nm like the m3 max!!! That would be unimaginable where intel can take us. Anyway, that is a long shot.
And comparing the intel i5 (2017 – 6 or 7 year old version) with radion 575 to m3 max is not even close. still that was a fight. I would compare between 13980hx and m3 max. I am sure intel would lose but it would give a very tough fight.
straight question – doesnt the 16 core CPU, 40 core GPU and 48gb unified memory on the 14 incher the same as the 16 core CPU, 40 core GPU and 48gb unified memory on the 16 incher??
If yes, you shouldn't be bothered. If NOT, there is some serious problem somewhere

Was looking at M3 but after seeing your comparison between M1 to M3 and the minimal time saving you have likely just saved me a few thousand $s. Not sure if M1 and M2 are readily available ( sorry if this is dumb question ) but in early stages of upgrade.
